1. Finish analyzing your classmate's poem by answering the following 5 questions in complete sentences and using textual evidence:
1.Is the poem an ode? Why or why not?
2.What imagery does the author create in her/his poem?
3. What literary techniques are used in his/her poem?
4.How does the it make you feel?
5.Does the structure of the poem help convey its message? If so, why? If not, what could have been done differently?
2. Rewrite your ode, if necessary. Remember, this is a summative grade!
3. Read 10-20 minutes of your SSR.
4. Keep up your vocabulary journal.
Tuesday:
1. Find lyrics from one of your favorite songs.
• Evaluate: Do your lyrics meet the requirements of a lyric poem? Why or why not? (Reference the elements of a lyric poem to answer this question thoroughly.)
• Publish the lyrics and your evaluation on my website: www.MsNinaHall.weebly.com
2. Read at least 10 minutes of your SSR.
3. Keep up your vocabulary journal.
4. Bring your textbooks tomorrow!

1. Prepare for the Book Launch Party tomorrow! Read your book at least twice to practice.

3. Add words to your vocabulary journal, if necessary! Six new vocabulary words, with definitions and example sentences, are due tomorrow.
Friday:
Pretend you are Mother Nature. Use all elements of lyric poetry to write your own lyric poem about what’s happening to you. Your poem must include:
–1st-person perspective from Mother Nature’s viewpoint
–evocative, emotional descriptions that tell a story
–2 similes
–2 metaphors
–3 vocabulary words
–2 stanzas
Due Monday for peer editing. Your final poem is due Tuesday. It is a summative grade!

- 1.Analyze & Evaluate: Identify examples of each element of lyric poetry in “Sleeping in the Forest.” Do you think Olive’s poem is a good example of lyric poetry? Why or why not?
2.Analyze: Reread lines 5-7. What is compared to “a stone / on the riverbed”?
3.Analyze: Identify another metaphor or simile. Describe what is being compared.
4.Interpret: Reread the last sentence in the poem. What might the speaker mean by "something better"? - DUE MONDAY.
