Monday, April 11: Finish the quiz. Now that you're finishing this at home, you may use the informational texts from this weekend. Just be sure you understand the basic concepts so can starting drafting a design of your tesseract tomorrow!
Comprehension Quiz Questions:
1.Define dimension.
2.Explain the 5 dimensions in your own words.
3.You and I are part of which dimension? Why?
4.If ghosts exist, which dimension would they be part of? Why?
5.Explain the tesseract.
6.How does the tesseract relate to space travel in A Wrinkle in Time?
Tuesday, April 12: 1) Read half of chapter 6, The Happy Medium, pp. 102-111.
2) Do your best to explain the fourth dimension to someone else, a parent, grandparent, older sibling, tutor, etc. Doing so will help you remember the details and make you look super smart!
Wednesday, April 13: Finish reading chapter 6. Annotate with your question for the fishbowl in mind. (Remember we will fishbowl on Wednesday, April 20, instead of on Friday!) Below are the fishbowl questions:
7A: 1) How do you think Meg's disadvantages will become advantages throughout the story? Identify her disadvantages, and then use foreshadowing to support your answer.
2) Now that we know more about dimensions, reevaluate our previous question: What are the Mrs. W's? Why do you think the Mrs. W's need the children? What could 3-dimensional creatures possible offer that the Mrs. W's can't do themselves? Use the informational texts and the book to support your answer.
3) More than just evil, what do you think the Dark Thing actually is in scientific terms? Use the informational texts and our understanding of tesseracts, space, and dimensions to support your answer.
7B: 1) More than just evil, what do you think the Black Thing is? Why do you think Meg's father made the decision to fight the Black Thing? What might the consequences be if he didn't decide to fight the Black Thing? Use the informational texts, notes, and the book to support your answer.
2) How is the tesseract related to A Wrinkle in Time? Explain its relationship to the main characters (the Murrys, the children, and the Mrs. W's), as well as its relationship to the setting of the story.
3) What symbolism is featured in the book? How does the symbolism affect the story? What message is Madeleine L'Engle communicating by using these symbols?
7C: 1) How are the six dimensions related to the book? Use the book, the informational texts, and your notes to support your answer. (Manuel, Mariela, Diego, Fabrizio, and Michelle)
2) More than just evil, what do you think the Dark Thing actually is in scientific terms? Use the informational texts and our understanding of tesseracts, space, and dimensions to support your answer. (Manuel G., Jose Manuel, Juan Diego, and Francisco)
3) Why do you think we are learning about the tesseract? How does it relate to A Wrinkle in Time so far? (Maria Laura, Jorge, Ronaldo, Valeria, Axel)
Thursday, April 14: Vocabulary journals are due tomorrow! Also bring markers to start designing your tesseracts tomorrow. I will provide the basic materials, but feel free to bring extra materials, if you'd like.
Friday, April 15: Finish your tesseract designs and drafts. Be sure that your design depicts a scene from the book AND shows space and time travel in some way. Perhaps you use string to bend time; perhaps your model looks like the worm hole below; whatever you decide, be able to explain how space and time travel relates to your scene in the book. Your draft is due Monday.
Also use this weekend to catch up on reading and any assignments you missed or need to resubmit.
On Monday, we will not have a quiz -- yay! Instead, we will continue building our tesseracts. On Tuesday, you will not have school because of parent-teacher conferences. On Wednesday, we'll fishbowl. For this fishbowl, you might need to do extra research! Be prepared!!
