Assignment: Something is wrong with Mom (or someone very dear to you). She's acting so strange. In fact, she's keeping a secret.
Write a story, using your best descriptive writing, that depicts how your mom is acting and, at the end, reveals the big secret. Your story must include dialogue so you can practice your dialogue punctuation. However, your story may not include the phrase, "Mom, you're acting strange," or any variation thereof. Don't tell us (the readers) she's acting strange; instead describe it! Post your final stories, with my corrections, here, by Wednesday, Sept. 17. Pretend you are one of the reporters who interviewed Ponyboy, Sodapop, and Darry at the hospital. Write a 1-2 page newspaper article about what happened. Be sure to include:
If you forgot your book, you can find the entire text of The Outsiders here: http://theoutsidersbook.blogspot.com/2005/09/whole-book.html George Orwell may have been a great author, but his books have competition thanks to Year 8.3! For the past month, you have written your own chapter books following George Orwell's model from Animal Farm. Publish your stories here so you can share your tales creative of revolution, revenge, heartbreak, and happy endings. Continue your REVOLT! story by writing a second chapter. Like Animal Farm, write a chapter about betrayal.
DUE: Thursday, January 30. The first few chapters of George Orwell's Animal Farm describe the Battle of Cowshed, the revolution story where the animals finally defeat that drunkard, Mr. Jones! Now it's your turn. Write your own revolution story! Your story must be original, but you can follow Orwell’s story model, which we summarized in class last week and which you wrote about in your one-paragraph summaries. That model included:
Your story must be:
DUE: Monday, January 20 WORTH: 30 points Hello 8.3! Get out your The City of Ember books (if you have one) and follow along as I read Chapter 16 on this podcast. For those of you who do not have a book, please listen closely to this podcast! The purpose of this podcast is so you can pay attention to pronunciation. Remember to identify and define TWO vocabulary words! Define each word in your own words, write an example sentence using that word, then post your words on Ms. Nina's Facebook page: www.Facebook.com/Ms.NinaHall. Extra credit for posting a picture that illustrates your vocabulary word! :) Listen to Chapter 16 here: Due: Monday, October 28, 2013
In class today, we looked at an ABAB rhyme scheme. Remember, an ABAB rhyme scheme is when every other line rhymes, such as: A. I am giving up my cause B. And turning to despair. A. With all my wasted effort, B. No longer do I care. For review, reread the story we read in class today, The Froggie Apocalypse, here: http://storybird.com/books/the-froggie-apocalypse/ ASSIGNMENTS 1. Choose any theme or storyline and write your own rhyming poetry using an ABAB scheme. It should be 3-4 stanzas (four lines = one stanza). 2. If you have a Facebook account, find and "like" Ms. Nina's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/Ms.NinaHall. This way you can stay updated on assignments, announcements, and even hints (like when there will be a pop quiz...) |
