"Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" turns darker than ever before as Harry, a teenager now, struggles to overcome the ever-strengthening army of Voldemort, who will do anything -- even the heartbreakingly unthinkable -- to lust after power and immortality.

This movie turns so dark that it changes the entire series' genre from junior fiction to proper adult drama. Indeed, Harry is grown up now, and he has bigger problems than the teenage crushes and cloak-and-dagger magic tricks we've seen win him the day in the past. As he matures, so too do his issues -- and what lies at stake. Suddenly the bad boys that he's grown up with, such as Draco and crew, have become powerful wizards with black-magic tricks up their sleeves and a maniacal master to fuel their notoriety. Harry and friends are in for a year of character-building that even we, as watchers and readers, wish we could spare him for fear that these hardships will break his spirit worse than the Horcrux broke another certain someone's soul. With dark themes and undertones (emotionally and even in its color scheme), this is my favorite of the Harry Potter movies and books, even though it features one of the most heart-shattering moments in storytelling. Before viewing, be sure to stock up on Kleenex.

This sad, heartbreaking, movie is about how Harry and Dumbledore do anything to stop the malicious, evil army of Voldemort from getting power.
