In The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, our main character Bruno realizes that Maria, his longtime maid, is more than a maid -- she's a real person with a real history! In the spirit of Bruno, write a story or biography about your maid or worker. Or, if you don't have a maid, write a story from Maria's perspective.

Fantastic writing, Yogitha! You did a really great job getting good information and writing it up into a smooth and fascinating story. This is one of the best pieces of writing you have turned into me! It's especially interesting that your maid's history links back to the very history we're reading about -- World War 2! Good work. :)

I have a mid at my house. Her name is Sander Nwe. She has been here since I was 6. She is from Irrawaddy state. I was so young that I only remember when she started working for my mother. He face is frowny and he hairs is messy. She doesn't refuse any of her jobs. I didn't know that she was going to be so important for our family. My room is neat and clean because of her. My mom is so comfortable because of her. Dad doesn't forget his things anymore now. In my life. I'd never heard "I can't do it" from her mouth. She had never been angry or disappointed with me . When U am hungry, she is always busy with the food in kitchen. She doesn't care about her dress. My mom always takes her shopping to buy her cool dresses, make ups and lipsticks. Now she looks pretty good that i found out 2 guys from facebook have a crush on her. She is kind and awesome. Everyone in my street likes her. She can also manage our business. We even take her to other countries like Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. She helps me with some of my school projects such as making a DNA models for science class. She even teaches me about religions. some vegetables that I'd never heard of before when I was little and market prices such as how much I should pay for the taxi fees. I can't even think of my lazy life without her. I also have a grandmother who is now 94 years old. She takes care of my grandmom too. The only mistake she did was, broke some dishes that we don't even care about. My mom didn't consider he as an idiot for breaking dishes. She was worrying that she might her hurt or bleed. She is part of our family and we really need her at out home.

A duty of the housewives is mostly considered to manage and organize their household. Almost every housewives need assistant in the kitchens. However, they do not only need help in cooking but also for washing dishes and clothes, ironing the clothing, cleaning the house and so on. That’s how the job of a maid begins. Just like those housewives who need assistants and are very busy with their job and housekeeping, my mother is one of those who needs some aid. My family has called on many maids to aid my mother. Among all of them, I would like to introduce one who had spent nine years of her lifetime with our family. She shared the same appearance like the other people in Myanmar, brown shade of skin, brown-black eyes and black hair. She came from Pago division. Her name was Tha Phay but we, children called her Ma Tha Phay. It is a polite custom in Myanmar to add “Ma” for females. Anyway, she was the first maid in our family. She was just 13 when she arrived and I was 1 years old. She attended the school until grade 4 and quit due to money problems. Her aim was to find enough money to support her family and herself. She took care of me and my sister since we were infants and loved us dearly. She had a heart of gold and would always try her best to finish up her tasks without hesitations. She would return to her hometown twice a year to see and support her family. As kind as she was, the fate was not very kind to her. After 3 or 4 years of working at our house, she lost the track of her mom. There were many rumors about her mom. Some said she was dead and other said she ran away and some other said she found a new husband. Not only mom was a painful problem to her but soon her father’s problems followed. He drank, caused mischief and finally ended up taking another wife. He had not only one but three of them. My mom told us that those years were painful for her, losing her mom and the trust of her dad. However, she had a strong heart. She overcame all emotions and still supported her father with the money she earned. My mom raised her salary and gave her pocket money. Every Thatingyut festival, she would pay homage to my parents with pure gratitude. I was very glad to have such a person in my life. We all treated her like a member of our family until she decided to quit. She was kind, strong and funny. It was a great loss for us to lose her.

The story of my maid is a simple yet such a sweet story. The name of my maid is Mee Khin. She is 22 years old. Her hometown is in Myaung Mya, which is a small village. The population in that village is really low, and 90% of the villagers are Kayins. Mee Khin is a very beautiful lady with a mind of a man. She is very strong even with her fine feminine features. We never really talk though. Mee Khin and I have been living together for about 2 years already, but we never talked about anything other than breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But yesterday (24. Jan), I asked her to help me write this English school work by telling me about her.

Chu Chu, this is one of my favorite stories! I'm so happy you got to know your maid better. Now you can support her during the next round of auditions! Maybe she can teach you a dance for International Day or Thingyan... Good job interviewing and writing up the information! :)
