Write about an instance of oppression, real or fictional, where your character feels oppressed by another culture. Post the final drafts of your stories, complete with corrections, here. To practice this grammar (would+have+past participle), write a composition about three scenarios. Title your composition: What I Would Have Done Differently... Each of your paragraphs should start: What would I have done differently? I would have.... (The describe what you would have done.) Your three paragraphs should describe three different scenarios. Scenario 1: What would you have done differently if, like Pink, your best friend was gone? (Perhaps s/he moved away or maybe s/he even died...) Scenario 2: You heard on the news that a house was fire last night. A baby was in the house and died in the fire. What would you have done? Scenario 3: Make up any scenario and describe what you would have done differently. Remember to start each paragraph: "What would I have done differently? I would have..." This will make it like a poem. The 9.1 magazine project is off to a good start!
For those of you who do not have article assignments yet, come to class tomorrow with a detailed article idea. Identify who you will interview and their contact information. For those of you who do have an article assignment, tonight, read a magazine article. Pay attention to the details. What questions would the journalist have asked to get that information?

The second part of your assignment this weekend is to brainstorm ideas for our magazine! Come to class on Monday with ideas about: a. a theme, b. a title, and c. 5 article ideas. Please write down your ideas in your notebook. 3. Bring in a magazine or newspaper article that you like. We will use this article next week to analyze news writing. In a five-paragraph essay, talk to me about plagiarism. What is it? Why is it wrong? Your five paragraphs should be formatted as follows: 1. Introduction - introduce what you are talking about, and summarize your three points; 2. First reason why plagiarism is wrong, plus justification and support; 3. Second reason why plagiarism is wrong, plus justification; 4. Third reason why plagiarism is wrong, plus justification; and 5. Conclusion paragraph. Remember to cite any references. The purpose of this assignment is to ensure that you all thoroughly understand the severity of plagiarism. It is theft. It is illegal. It will result in serious consequences.
