Be prepared to record your podcasts tomorrow!! Remember to practice your voice, tones, and dramatics!! :) Today in class, we read a couple stories from fan fiction writers who gave us a new ending for The Giver.
Which one was your favorite? The one that I will entitle, "Cliff!"? Or the one that we, as a class, called "The Trap"? Those stories come from an excellent website and resource called FanFiction. Find it here: http://www.fanfiction.net/. For more alternative endings to The Giver, search for "The Giver" in the searchbar (top right). For a direct link, click here. Due Date: Monday, October 28.
ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION The ending of The Giver is one that many of you called: · weird, · strange, · nonsensical, and · illogical. Our young protagonist, Jonas, sleds “downwards, downwards, faster and faster” (p. 224). He hears what he is sure must be music ahead of him, and perhaps even behind him… But, then again, “perhaps it was only an echo” (p. 224). In this way, the author, Lois Lowry, leaves the reader wondering, WHAT HAPPENED?! ASSIGNMENT Write an additional chapter describing what, in fact, happened to Jonas. Did he live happily ever after? Or not? This assignment needs to be 2 pages minimum, typed on your word processor (such as Microsoft Word), and double spaced. GRADING RUBRIC This assignment is worth 20 points: · 10 pts for producing 2 pages of fan fiction · 10 pts for showing up to class with your fan fiction printed and ready for peer review IN ADDITION...
