What's history got to do with real life? Specialists, such as United Nations delegates, international lawyers, and development experts, use lessons learned from history every day to propose solutions to modern-day problems in countries all over the world. You will do exactly that during this project, where YOU will propose a solution for a country that really does need help. Use history to help the world!
GOAL: You will use the history you have learned from the Founding Era of the U.S. to propose modern-day solutions to a failing or fragile state.
STEP 1: Identify one country from the Failed State Index (any country between 1-107): http://fsi.fundforpeace.org/rankings-2015
STEP 2: Research the problems of this country. Identify three of its worst problems: one social, one economic, and one political. Use the Failed State Index to see which problems are the worst for that country. Find an explanation of the Failed State Index measurements below.
STEP 3: Turn your research into a proper, formal business proposal that will detail 3 problems from your country (one social, one economic, and one political); the solutions to your 3 problems; and a description of how your solutions are different from those already in place. Use the following format, including headings in bold:
The Goal
An overview of your goal. (1 paragraph.)
The Problems
An in-depth look at the 3 worst problems in your country. (3 paragraphs, one per problem. Be sure to cite your sources.)
The Solutions
Detailed ideas at how to realistically solve these problems using your history. (3+ paragraphs. Use your textbook for textual evidence and citation.)
The Difference
Describes how your solutions are different than those that exist today. (1+ paragraph(s).)
STEP 4: Send your proposal to:
