So our class (9.1) published a very interesting magazine, with the coolest name called “The Victims Magazine”. This magazine comprises two sections, sports and fashion. The sports section contained articles written by guys, and the fashion section mainly contained articles written by girls of year 9.1. These articles were based on interviews, which the students had with some famous personalities in the fashion and sports industry.
I really enjoyed contributing in this magazine because it was a really fun ACTIVITY for us, as we didn’t really find it very fractious, since our very own Ms. Nina compromised a lot with the students, and tried her best giving out as less homework possible. This was the main reason I liked working on this magazine. Another reason I loved working on this magazine was because I got to interview Mr.Mek, who I never thought of as a cool person. I always thought Mr.Mek was geeky/nerdy, since he was always wearing those weird spectacles, until I got to interview him, and find out how amazing he is, and his how he performs his fabulous martial arts moves. If only Ms. Nina was not in charge of this magazine, I don’t think anyone would enjoy working on it, coz if you think about, writing an 800 words essay certainly is a lame/boring thing to do. I am glad yet distressed we have finished publishing Victims, and I really look forward to writing another magazine WITH MS.NINA!
I don’t think there was any part of the magazine writing that I did not like, though there were times when some of my friends got frustrated and felt like laying it off. I believe that was simply because they were too big of lazy-butts to stop playing games for hours, and take some time off in order to finish their articles. As soon as they reached school, they remembered that their paragraphs were due that morning, and knew there was nothing they could do about it. So they simply discouraged the idea of this magazine.
I believe we have had lot and lots of learning from this magazine. The most essential learning we had was of how to write an essay. I believe 90% of my essay writing has improved because of this magazine. It has not only improved because we simply WROTE an article, but it was mostly because Ms. Nina went through our articles a number of times, and modified it. After reading all those corrections, we learnt what we had to write, and what we did not have to write on an essay in future. There were many other things such as vocabulary, grammar, and etc. that I did not feel I improved much on.
I think the idea of publishing this magazine was very innovative. Because of this magazine, I bet almost all of the students’ essay writing has improved. At the same time, no one disliked this idea either, but really enjoyed doing it since we got to do some really exciting stuff. I think this is one of the best ways to improve a child’s writing, and not letting them get bored of it. SO THUMBS UP TO MS.NINA ☺
